Corporate Volunteers of the Year
Nancy Kumar assisted several nonprofits on six matters in different areas including employment, corporate, contracts and raffles in 2009. Kumar utilizes pro bono work as an opportunity to learn new things and helped to expand Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta’s volunteer base by partnering with law firm attorneys on pro bono matters. Kumar is a graduate of Wake Forest School of Law.
George Sewell is Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta’s “risk management” expert. Sewell assisted nonprofit organizations on nine different matters in 2009 related to contracts and construction. Sewell is the former president of the Association of Corporate Counsel – Georgia Chapter and is a graduate of Emory University School of Law.
Lawton Hawkins assisted nonprofit clients in 2009 with four legal matters and presented an outstanding workshop for nonprofits about the legal duties of board members at Hands on Atlanta. Hawkins is a graduate of University of Virginia School of Law.
Law Firm Volunteers of the Year
Jennifer Van Ness assisted four different clients on various contract and real estate manners in 2009. Van Ness also worked with a nonprofit client over the holiday season with a lease negotiation that kept the organization out of bankruptcy. Van Ness graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School.
Valerie King assisted various nonprofit clients on eight corporate and contract matters in 2009. King is very diligent and willing to go out of her comfort zone to assist nonprofit clients with their legal matters. King is a graduate of Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
Stuart Neiman assisted nonprofit clients on six different real estate matters. Neiman is Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta’s “go to” volunteer on urgent real estate matters. Neiman is a graduate of Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law.

Thomas Bishop, General Counsel, Georgia Power Company
Tom Bishop was a board member for Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta from 2006-2009, and was the Board Chair for two years. As a board member, Bishop always kept Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta “top of mind,” and assisted the organization in making many connections. Bishop is a graduate of Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law.
